Although this blog post is for my class being the blogger that I am I will add a read more for those have not seen Fruitvale Station.
Fruitvale Station is a movie drama which came out in 2013. This movie goes through Oscar Grant's life for the first half and then the tragic moments before and after his shooting. This movie to me is about the how various people and events come together to create a bad situation. Not only did this movie show the bad situation, but what it does to those who fall victim to people being shot.
I am unsure how to say whether I did or did not like the movie. I have the end playing in the background to keep my emotions fresh. I did like the movie because I enjoy movies or reading books that bring intense emotions. I did not like the movie because it strikes very deep to me because I'm from Milwaukee. With that in mind many of my friends are aware of the law and their rights so I don't worry about them, but that's not to say they won't end up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The film brings insight to not only Oscar as he was shot but also his mother, girlfriend, and friends after he was shot. The movie even covered the police officers asking, "What the fuck happened? Huh?" There was the element of the officers confusion at shooting Oscar. It was well made to give the viewer all perspectives. As I watched these moments unfold I began to recall all of my friends and their families in Milwaukee. Seeing Oscar on the ground saying, "I got a daughter... I have a daughter..." made me want to jump through the computer and hug his daughter, his mother, and everyone. In my own experience of losing a loved on to a drunk driving accident there is only so much words can do for people. When there isn't anything to be said hugs can sometimes speak louder than words.
It was such a powerful movie. The actors did an amazing job.
My heart goes out to the family.
Jenna, I agree with you about liking and not liking the movie. I can say it was a great movie and I most definitely liked it, but what I don't like is that sadly it is based on a real event. I definitely cried during the scene when he claims his daughter!
